Every so often you discover artists that have a profound effect on your goals and dreams. I don’t know what has taken me so long to put the pieces together and realise who and what Heidi is, but she has become one of those inspirational people for me. Her style is House/Techno and going by her Youtube videos she’s a bit of a party girl. She’s heading to Australia in February and I recommend you don’t miss out on seeing her.
Born in Windsor, Ontario Canada, across the river from Detroit, Heidi discovered techno and became friends with the one and only Richie Hawtin (aka. Plastikman) who’s link to Detroit has had a clear effect on her career.
She made the inevitable move to London in 2000 and was apart of the team that set up Phonica Records which is a massive achievement in itself. I was lucky enough to go to a Phonica Records party in July this year with Space Dimension Controller which blew my mind away.
Heidi has played at clubs such as Fabric, Panoramabar, Space Ibiza as well as holding residencies in her new home Berlin in at Watergate. Her world tour in 2009 sounded incredible, playing on every continent except Antarctica within the one year.
She also produces and hosts the reputable BBC1 show ‘In New DJ’s We Trust’ every Thursday 21.00-22.00 (uk time) as well as having a column in the Techno magazine MixMag. This girl just keeps getting better and better the more i read about and listen to her.
She’s playing at the Playground Weekender Festival which I recommend anyone who has a spare few hundred dollars to seriously consider and at Revolver in Melbourne on February 12th 2011.
